Vincent Grant Gill was born in Norman, Oklahoma. His father, J. Stanley Gill, a lawyer and amateur musician, encouraged his musical interests from a young age, providing him with instruments and exposing him to a wide range of music, including country, bluegrass, and rock and roll.
